Also contains correspondence, memos, etc., 1875-1876, from Radcliffe Printing Co.; dye notebooks and recipes, some with cloth samples (swatches); petition by sketchmakers and engravers concerning hours of labor, ca. 1886-1887; labor contracts for color mixers, 1866-1878; memos, family snapshots, postcards of Dover, plant drawings, layouts and construction estimates; drawings, photographs and advertising material for mill accessories and machinery, particularly for finishing processes (printing and calendering machinery, dye kettles, etc.), and insurance and underwriters' reports, particularly for the fire of 1887.

The first textile mill in Dover, N.H., the Dover Cotton Factory was chartered in 1812 at a site on the Cocheco River and was known as the "upper factory" [Mill No. 1]. Further expansion occurred at the lower falls in the early 1820's and again in 1825 when a calico printing works was included. In 1823-1824 the mills were renamed the Dover Manufacturing Co. In 1827 the print works incorporated as a separate enterprise and became the Cocheco Manufacturing Co., which purchased the debt of the D.M.C...
